If you’re one of those people with normal or even oily hair, as opposed to dry hair, then why not give beer shampoo a try. You may be searching for a different type of aroma or texture for your hair and adding beer nutrients could be the answer. So, what are the benefits of beer soap or shampoo.

Well firstly, I’ll answer the question you’re probably thinking to yourself. No, you won’t end up smelling like a brewery. On the contrary, your actual smell can vary, as many beer soaps can contain other ingredients such as bay-leaves, bramble-berry or orange.

The Natural Benefits of Beer Soap

Did you know that the natural components of beer such as hops, yeast and barley not only make a great beverage, they can also help your skin and hair. So think about this, beer can actually make people’s appearance much better! I knew it. I kept telling my mates this and I’ve been justified.

Now seriously, the antioxidants mixed with the vitamin B in beer can strengthen and thicken damaged hair. Especially for those that love to spend copious hours in the hot sunshine, beer shampoo will nourish you hair and possibly bring a glow back that’s been missing in recent years. Some even use it on their beard!

Beer is also full of sucrose sugars which is a natural type of sugar, and has been used in beauty products for years. It contains hygroscopic properties which acts as a natural exfoliater. This is beneficial as it helps to restore the balance of the skin’s natural oils.

So, who’d have thought there’s another use for your home brew!

Varieties of Beer Soap

I know somebody that makes beer soap and you’ll be surprised at the different flavours she makes. She makes a Raspberry Stout which involves black raspberry vanilla fragrance oil and Merlot Sparkle Mica.

Then there’s the Green Apple Ale soap, made with tart apple fragrance oil and green mica. Essential oils are blended in with these which also helps reduce the amber aroma. These oils can included pine, cedarwood, rosemary, patchouli, lavender or litsea.
