So, you want to blog about beer hey! Where do you start and why are you doing this? (We’ll here’s the where to begin but more about that later). Why do you want to blog about beer in the first place? Is it because you want to make money from a subject you have a broad knowledge about, or even limited knowledge? Or are you interested in sharing your knowledge and would like people to learn from it? Whatever the reason (and most people want the prior) it’s not that difficult to create a blog about anything so I’m going to teach you how to blog about beer and profit large in 6 months. In fact, you can get a website up and running within minutes, seconds in some circumstances but I’ll get to this later.

Satisfaction

The saying goes that everyone has a book in them. Meaning that all of us are capable of writing a book in our lifetime, many of us do not chose to do it. We either don’t think of it or it all seems like too much hard work.

I believe that we are all adept enough to build a website in our lifetime, no matter our age or any other restrictions you think may hold us back. YOU can create a blog of your own starting today and have it live in minutes. You’ll also achieve a great feeling of satisfaction, knowing that the whole internet world can see your hard work! How cool is that.

A sense of achievement is something we all enjoy creating and a blog is part of that journey that you can start immediately after reading this article. I’m going to show you how to blog about beer and profit large in 6 months. So, what do you need to learn first? Before I tell you where to start, let’s go through a list of the things you will need to learn.

  • Domain & Hosting
  • WordPress
  • Keywords
  • Writing Content
  • Affiliate Programs
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Ok, that’s the start, that will have you up and running with the possibility of making good money on the internet with your beer blog. This could be a blog about anything really, whiskey, cocktails shakers or anything else. As you move forward and progress further, you’ll also get into these other areas.

  • Social Engagement
  • Email Marketing
  • Video marketing

Actually, the list goes on, but the foundation of your blog will be the first list. I’ll explain what each involves and how they help you.

Domain & Hosting

Have you ever heard of a domain name? I’m sure you have. You’ll require one of these to identify your website. You know, like ‘I Know the Barman’, the name of this blog. If you look in the address bar or browser bar at the top of this page it says ‘https://iknowthebarman.com/ how-to-blog-about-beer’. Now this part is my domain name ‘iknowthebarman.com’. You’re going to need one of these. They cost on average about $12-$15.

Hosting is different. This is like a website storage facility that holds many, many websites full of data. What you will need to do is contact a hosting provider, sign up and grab your piece of real-estate from them. In other words, pay for them to host your blog. This is a much bigger cost. You can pay a smaller amount, in the range of $10-$15 per month or at the larger end with up to $40-$50 per month.

You get what you pay for, so the downfall is that when signing up with a cheaper host, your blog will be put on a shared server with hundreds of others. This will affect the speed of your website. If this doesn’t matter to you then by all means, go the cheaper route. Otherwise, pay the extra and benefit with faster hosting, which is usually more secure also. Somewhere in the range of $20-$25 per month may be a good place to start.

Unfortunately, most hosts will make you pay for either 1 or 2 years in advance, meaning you cannot pay on a monthly basis. Dammit!

Content Management System

What the! So, what is a content management system (CMS)? Keep calm and carry on, it’s only a system to provide you with a place to build your website. Nothing to worry about except that you will need to learn how to use this CMS. Don’t panic, it’s easy.

You’re going to learn a CMS that is the most popular and easy to use, WordPress. WordPress is used as the backend of nearly 29% of all websites on the internet, so you’re in good company. As far as you’re concerned, it’s a program where you can build your blog with lots of great content. Written text, nice images and videos if you’d prefer.

Every WordPress user has a username and password (doesn’t everything these days)! So, it’s just simply a matter of signing in when you want to add new content to your blog. You may also want to set up various things such as a menu, background image or sidebar. These are all things that only require setting up once, unless you conclude you don’t like the look of it anymore and decide a change needs to be made.

The appearance of your website is made so much easier by choosing a ‘Theme’. By this I mean you have a multitude of options of how your website will look and function. Developers are always coming up with new Themes, some are free, some are paid. I use a Theme on this website called Divi, created by Elegant Themes.

When you install a Theme, it will display with example images. You just need to find your own images, upload them and insert them in the same location. For instance, making a beer blog is great for this. Take photos of your home brew, man-cave etc. on your phone. Transfer them to your PC then upload to WordPress ready to import onto your website.

Now I know I’m making this all sound very easy and once you get the hang of it, it is. But everything takes time and learning a new program does also. Don’t expect to remember everything in 1-2 days. This is why the title of this blog is ‘How to Blog About Beer and Profit in 6 Months’. You’re not going to make money tomorrow, trust me.

In fact, I learned how to make this website, and profit in under 6 months but not just by myself. I needed help. I learned everything from content creation to affiliate programs to linking everything together in one place. In fact, my website is hosted there, and I got my domain in the same place also. I was trained in affiliate marketing, so I didn’t just learn how to create a website, I learned how to MAKE MONEY FROM IT.

Keywords

Have you thought who is going to come and read your blog and how they are going to find your articles within the billions of posts online? Yeah, lots of people love to blog these days so why should they come and visit your blog?

The secret to getting free random visitors to your website is ‘Keywords’. This is what will get you ranked in search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo.

A keyword is not necessarily a single word either, if fact you’ll have an extremely hard time ranking for a single word in today’s online frenzy. So, a keyword can be any number of words such as ‘how to beer blog’, ‘brewing software’ or ‘beer blog today and make money online’.

The challenge for you is to find high converting keywords that have little competition. Meaning terms that are entered into th Google search bar. There are programs that can help with this, the one we use is called Jaaxy.

You will add these keywords to your article and to your title, so search engines will pick up on these. There are a number of ‘plugins’ (this is a software component that will add a specific function to WordPress) that can help you with keywords, such as ‘Yoast’. These programs can advise you where to add your keyword to improve the chances of you post reaching your main target of page 1 in Google.

So, even though it’s a wonderful experience crafting out a blog for an audience to read, there are a number of things required to learn if you want your work to reach not only the masses, but anyone vaguely interested in your subject. Don’t get discouraged though, anyone with half a brain (myself included) can learn this and it is a fulfilling experience.

Content Writing

You have your keyword/s so now you’ve got to add them to your content. This can be fairly easy because you just want to write about beer. Many people are known to do something called ‘keyword stuffing’. They add too many keywords all over their article and in doing so can make the article unreadable or just not make sense. They do this so that Google can see they are using specific keywords. What they don’t realize is that they get penalized by Google for using too many keywords and their ranking drops.

The correct way of doing things is to write naturally, go back and add keywords later.

Enough about keywords. What is going to get people to read what you have to say is quality, interesting, informative content. Google loves this also. Google knows if your content is more informative than other articles about the same subject and will rank you accordingly.

Quality content is going to be the foundation of your success. Inform people, solve their problems, give great information and your audience will come back for more. If you found a website and they offered solutions to a problem you have encountered, would you visit them again? There’s a good chance you might.

Engaging with your visitors is crucial and a great place to learn and get tips is Enchanting Marketing. They will teach you how to really make mundane things sound so, unmundane!

Another thing that Google likes is links. What I mean by this is links within your website and links to other websites. Do you notice the link on the line above, it links to Enchanting Marketing. Here’s a link to one of my internal articles titled ‘Best Beer Keg Fridges for Chilling 2018‘. These links are known as ‘link juice’ and helps Google rank your website.

So, you now understand that you’ll require a domain name and get a hosting provider to store your website. You need to learn WordPress and write engaging, informative content with great converting keywords scattered throughout. This is the basis of your high-ranking website. But one thing remains, how are you going to MAKE MONEY!

Affiliate Programs

It’s with much excitement that I bring you the main reason you’re doing all this. Yep, bringing in dollars via your affiliate programs. If you’ve never heard of affiliate programs before then listen up, you need them!

Nearly all companies that sell products require more channels to promote their goods. This is where you come in. Let’s take Guinness as an example. They do alright selling their own products in stores and online but how much more reach would they get if thousands of bloggers were prepared to promote their goods.

This is why tens of thousands of companies will pay you a commission to promote their goods and get potential customers to take action through purchasing their products. It’s a fairly simple process. You promote a product (eg: cocktail book) from a company that offers you a commission for selling it. Usually in the range of 5-10%. This may sound small but when you have multiple posts with thousands of visitors (through your SEO efforts) then that’s a lot of eyeballs on your blog. It can add up quickly.

So how do you find these companies that offer commissions? Very easily. Via affiliate listing services such as CJ Affiliates, SharaSale, Rakuten or FlexOffers. There’s a plethora of others out there also, don’t just stick to these common services.

Many corporations such as Amazon do not go through one of these services. Instead they have their own affiliate program that you can apply through. You will usually find a small link at the bottom of their homepage called ‘Affiliate’. If you can’t find it in that location just do a Google search for ‘’company’ affiliate program’. Often it will be the first listing in the search results.

So, what do you do once you’ve been approved? You will have been given an account to sign into if you are approved. Once logged in there will be a location where all your personal links are stored. These will be for the companies ‘banners’ that can be placed on your website. You will usually have the option to add particular product, but this is a little more complicated. It’s known as ‘deep-linking’.

As I mentioned earlier, there is a place to learn everything in depth with videos, classrooms and courses for everything affiliate marketing’. You can learn deep linking and so much more in this one place. Here’s a link to a great video that shows you how to deep link. This example is through the Rakuten affiliate service but most of them are similar.

You will find that the more you get into affiliate links, the more you will find that there is a fair amount to learn. You could stick with the basics and get by very well, I’d suggest this for now until you’re making a reasonable income. Then it could be time to experiment a little.

You’re on Your Way

I don’t want to load you with too much information, so I’ll start to wrap up now. As I’ve already stated, beginning a website about a passion is one of the greatest things you can do in your lifetime and if done correctly, can make you a nice little income. Even better if you’re heading towards retirement, you won’t have to rely on a pension.

Now you have two options. You can go it alone and try to get free information on the internet, or sign up to a program that will teach you everything you need to know.

I’m not going to convince you either way as there’s pro’s and cons to both. It goes without saying that the ‘pro’ of the first option is that finding information will cost you nothing. Most of the information can be found on Google, YouTube or anywhere else on the web. Unfortunately, the correct information can often be difficult to find, and much of it can be conflicting. It can be a longer process to learn because of this.

The other alternative is to sign up with a program and learn more efficiently and correctly the first time. The only downfall to this is the fact that you’ll have to pay for it (There is also a free option).

Now I’d like to say you get what you pay for and when you buy something physical, this is often the case. But when it comes to digital products, there are many sharks out there willing to grab your money for nothing in return. Well I’ll put my reputation on the line here and point you in the right direction.

Conclusion

There you have it, you now know the basics of how to blog about beer or anything else for that matter. I will advise you that creating money on the internet is not easy. Building a website is (especially with the 30 second website builder I mentioned at the beginning, at WA) but that’s just half the battle. I would always convince anyone to take up this opportunity as it’s available to all of us. There’s over 2 billion people online with most searching for products to buy, why shouldn’t YOU be the one they purchase through. Afterall, you’re only sending your audience to the merchant, so there is no risk involved to you with complaints or customer support issues.

Get it right and you’ll be so satisfied and pleased with yourself, not to mention wealthy! But don’t go into this lightly. If you intend making money and gaining lots of visitors, this will not be a short-term thing. Your articles could be sitting in the search engines for 4-6 months before they hit page 1 in the search results but when they do, the sky is the limit.

I hope I’ve given you an insight into ‘how to blog about beer’, as this is what you searched for. I know, because that was my main KEYWORD!
